Dreaming Big In 2018

I’m a dreamer and I truly believe the sky’s the limit. I set goals, write them down in a journal and check them off. A few years ago I also created a vision board of all my dreams and goals. I cut out articles, pictures, quotes, and even categorized and organized it in a way that was aesthetically laid out. I also strategically hung my board on a wall in a place where I made sure I can see it everyday. This vision board still hangs on my bedroom wall full of all my big dreams and I must admit, I think it’s a wonderful piece of art 😉.  I believe vision boards, journals or whatever you have to do to help you focus on your goals and dreams you should do.

This time last year as I stared at my vision board I knew it was time to get started. I knew procrastinating and not knowing where or how to start wasn’t an excuse anymore. I had every intention on checking off more of my goals. Everything on my vision board are things I love and needed to be surrounded in. So, it was definitely time for me to change and/or make a change on how I approached those things. When you think about it, change is the only thing that brings change in order to get a different result. Anyhow, my approach was to be simple, not make it complicated and focus on one thing.  I started with the 3 basic steps of what I needed to focus on, when I needed to start and and how I was going to make it happen.

What? – First and foremost whatever you do, you should have fun doing it, love something about it or be passionate about it. I believe it’s the only way you will remain committed and focused. And… why not dedicate yourself to something you love that pulls on your heartstrings? Anyway, one of my goals is to share a business with my sisters. We’ve talked about it and dreamt of it for several years. Our goal in starting our business was with a website. We knew this would definitely kick off our business venture and eventually lead us to our ultimate goal. I wasn’t quite sure what part I needed to play in this, but this needed to be the first step. In addition to building a website, for me personally, I also wanted freedom and mobility. I wanted to be creative, create my own work schedule and work from anywhere. So, I figured getting a website up and running would be the perfect task for me to take on.

When? – As they say, there’s nothing like the present. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow isn’t here yet so all we have is now. It was clear I needed to start right then, no more excuses or fear. I know sometimes for me I have the tendency to focus too much on what the end result will be. I then get discouraged because I can’t see how it’s going to end or how I will ever get there. Then it becomes this revolving door of procrastination. So, it was time to act more, just do it and stop thinking or worrying about the end result. I started that day.

How? – After a lot of research, I wanted to use WordPress as the platform in getting our website created. However, at the time we could not afford to hire a website designer and invest in some of the other things we needed to do for our business. So, out of curiosity I took the initiative to see if this is something I could do myself; as I’ve seen commercials advertising how you can create a website in under an hour. So, I read a few books, articles, watched youtube videos, did webinars, seminars and took online courses. I put my hands on anything that would educate and help me understand designing and building a website in WordPress. Because I now have every intention of stepping outside of my comfort zone by challenging myself to build it. After all, it seemed easy enough. How hard could it be? Right? Wrong! Without getting into too much detail, let’s just say don’t believe those commercials.  It’s way more involved and complicated than an hours work. Anyhow, my intention was to get it done, coast slowly, cut down on costs as much as I could, design what I now envision and understand the process one step at a time.

Building and designing a website was not on my vision board, a dream or goal of mine. It was definitely outside of any interests or thought of what I would ever do. But sometimes you must also be willing to step outside the box to get to the thing you really want. However, this experience has been far more rewarding than I could have ever imagined. Not only did I learn a new skill, I loved doing it and it helped me check off a few of my other personal goals along the way. It has also taught me other business aspects, planning and requirements that I was unaware it would teach me; that I should focus on as well. So, I’m very grateful for all the lessons I’ve learned, the knowledge I’ve acquired and the tons of creativity it allowed me to express. Don’t get me wrong as rewarding and proud as I feel, it has not been all good. With the start of any new venture it takes A LOT of hard work and sleepless nights. There were times I wanted to give up. Times I felt inadequate, tired and overwhelmed. There was one particular time when I was brought to tears when the website crashed and I completely panicked because I had no idea what to do or how to fix it. I quickly learned what the term “white screen of death” meant in the world of WordPress. This was the biggest lesson because I also realized I had to learn how to fix things and/or find the resources to get things fixed. There were many ups and downs and I expect to have more. However, I wouldn’t change a thing because I’ve grown tremendously.

In retrospect, I now realize along with all my goals I had accomplished last year, I also had a keyword that was constantly in my thoughts. That keyword was “intention.” So with that being said, going into this new year I will continue to use the 3 basic steps of what I need to focus on, the when and how. However, I also feel I will focus on a goal keyword as well and my keyword for 2018 is “Abundance” – (Def. – an extremely plentiful or over sufficient quantity or supply). I felt this keyword is so fitting of the things I want to accomplish this year. aka A-Bunn-Dance… Get it?… 😀  “A Bunn” will “dance” in creativity, dance in freedom, dance in finance, dance in confidence, dance in fitness, dance in relationships, dance in love, dance in travel and dance in business growth. But most of all I will continue to dance in loving what I do everyday and living my truth by being the best version of myself.

I’m excited and looking forward to this new year and the new things I will learn along with endless possibilities. I’m also hoping my continuous journey will inspire you to conquer your fears, take action and take the steps no matter how big or small. Set those goals, create a vision board, pull on your heartstrings, be willing to learn something new, educate yourself, read books, embrace your talents, make that commitment, step outside your comfort zone, be positive, be bigger, do better, work hard, work smart, hope, pray and take a chance. Let’s get it going… Get off the couch, write that book, plan that vacation you’ve always dreamed of, check off that item on your bucket list, turn off reality TV and give your attention to your own reality. Take a class, do whatever you need to do, be fearless and keep pushing forward. The new year is the perfect time for new beginnings. If you keep doing what you’re doing, you’ll keep getting what you’re getting. If you want something different, you have to do something different. So let’s all be unstoppable in 2018 and dream big. 😚
